The rat race, the grind, the traffic, the worsening winters, the taxes, the cost of living, etc. Can anyone give us some encouragement on the family side of things? Our plan is to (obviously) always have an open door for whoever wants to visit and come back every summer and at least Thanksgiving or Christmas. All words are appreciated. Thanks!
We're relocating from NC and leaving behind my parents, brother, and mother in law, all who relocated to NC from other places to be closer to us. It was a hard decision, but my husband was offered his dream job, and everyone understands that it makes sense to take it. We're planning on buying a house with an in-law suite (a lot of older homes there have them) so everyone will have a place to stay and can come for long stretches without feeling inconvenienced. We will also visit 3+ times/year. As a couple in our mid-30s, we had to prioritize career over family so we can set ourselves up for a better long term situation. Plus, I am definitely looking forward to the more lifestyle friendly pace of life and being able to be outdoors year round.

We have relocated to Dunedin, absolutely love it. When you say Tampa are you talking the city itself or the surrounding suburbs. The main thing is you need to want to make the move. The summers discourage a lot of people, it is Florida and it is hot. After that you need to have some wants like close to the city, close to the water, some towns, no towns, maybe spring training, beaches, etc. Then you can figure it out.

Wow that must be a hard thing to do after your family moved to be near to you.

Ah, another relocatee from NC. Welcome. We did the same thing.

We have a three way split floorplan, which is great for company. You will have a lot of great home options, for visiting or live in family.

saintcharlie Actually in the same boat like you-I reside in Maryland just outside of DC. Northeasterner for my entire life. been visiting Tampa many times since 2012 and have slowly fall in love with the place. I have family all up here also like you however mostly in NY. Actually visiting with family this July to try to convince mom to consider the area. Plan on making the move within the next 2 years myself.

When you weight the pros/cons of living up here vs Tampa hands down quality of life from my perspective is much better there. I can picture myself running along Bayshore Blvd. with shorts In January and think of how cold it would be here.
