That article was written in 2003. Florida was a different place then.

What coverage do most of you carry? I carry $50K/$100K here in MI and curious what liability most carry down there? I hear FL can go as low as $10K which seems low to me.

I posted this on another thread too since there are a few going around.

I have never been as bombarded by lawyer TV ads either as I am living here.

I don't even see as many in Miami when I go down there to visit my father.

It's almost like these scumbags are just DYING for people to get into accidents!

This fake accident/injury scheme must be making a lot of lawyers and doctors very very rich in Tampa Bay.

Have you been to Las Vegas?
Nothing but personal injury attorney commercials on TV. Billboards also.

I have never paid what I am paying now, even though I lived in NYC and that place is OVERRUN with Mexican/Salvadoran illegals cooking in kitchens, cleaning buildings, etc.

The rates in Tampa/Miami/Florida are nuts b/c of the fraud. Because if you can't get a job, at least you can fake an injury and still get a check.
Auto insurance in Chicago is way cheaper than here because illionis is not a no fault state. When we left Chicago and moved here our auto insurance almost doubled and we had to take a higher deductable here. So Florida is not such a cheap state to live in. Your auto and homeowners makes up for not having a state tax.

In Chicago, I was paying $2,500 a year for liability insurance for a POS car that was worth about $3,000. No tickets, no accidents.

In Florida, a comprehensive (100k/300k/100k) policy for a $40,000 car costs me $800 a year.

My state income tax fell from $6,000 a year to zero. My sales tax went from 10% to 7%. I won't even start on housing costs, the ban on happy hour pricing in Chicago, $5 a gallon gas, $75 parking tickets and parking lots which will run you $10 an hour.

Cheaper in Chicago? Maybe if you were living in a cardboard box on Lower Wacker...

We lived in Joliet and paid $400 every 6 mts for full coverage sowe paid $800 a year with a $250 deductable on a 2010 Mazda 6. Moved to Florida went to $2,400 a year with a $500 deductable. So you tell me if insurance is cheaper in illionis. And our renters insurance went from $30,000 coverage paying $80 a year,to $15,000 coverage for over $200 a year. So there you have it.

Our car insurance doubled when we moved this year from AZ to FL. Same exact coverage/deductibles. Got quotes from 3 companies; all within a few bucks of each other. No accidents/claims in last 15 years.
