I commute from South Tampa to New Tampa for work. While the direction of the roads is a whole topic unto itself (the whole Bruce B Downs not connecting to I-275 thing, etc), traffic moves pretty good. Going home home, I take 75 to 4 to the Connector to Bay to Bay and it usuually works. If I go 275, the stretch from downtown to Dale Mabry is usually bumber to bumber, but moving.

All larger cities have bad traffic. Its the fact that a lot of people from a wide area are trying to converge on a small area at the same time.

How about the veterans? I saw last week they converted to the "high speed" toll, I breeze through it at 70mph. But of course it was a weekend. Wonder those who commute daily for living saw a difference in traffic, specially in the morning.

The article didn't say it was the worst. "Is there a worse place to drive than Tampa? Some of us don't think so." I think the Times was just throwing it out there as an intro to the article. Every driver that has a tough commute thinks their city has the worst traffic.

On the other hand, it takes me 40 minutes to do my 18 mile commute which averages out to 22.5 mph but that's because of a total lack of light synchronization by certain municipalities.

Why is Tampa's traffic so bad? The science behind the jams | Tampa Bay Times

OF COURSE THERE ARE WORSE PLACES TO DRIVE THAN TAMPA.

Traffic in Tampa Bay is NOTHING compared to Orlando, Miami, Dallas, DC, Boston, Atlanta, ETC. The list of places with WORSE traffic than Tampa is very long!

Second, traffic is not bad if you live in South Tampa and commute east, west or north. Reverse commute, people. It's not rocket science! And don't even tell me you can't afford South Tampa. Yes, there are plenty of cheap houses (150k or less) in South Tampa. Here's one right here:

4005 W Granada St, Tampa, FL 33629 - Home For Sale and Real Estate Listing - realtor.com®

Finally, bad traffic is very lucrative for this state. Car accidents (whether people want to believe this or not) pump BILLIONS of dollars into this state in the form of paying millions of salaries (doctors, lawyers, mechanics, insurance agents, admin staff, etc) and many others make a killing from car crashes.
Any houses with a working roof that you don't need masks to see?

I've driven in much worse traffic than Tampa. Orlando and Miami were way over the top.

Boston, too. Washington, DC.

Tampa's freeway network is meh, and Pinellas almost non-existant. There needs to be a combination of freeway connectivity and mass transit (I-275 should be 12-14 lanes, with a train nearby). Drivers in Tampa are really slow. I love driving in Miami, Atlanta because you have HOV, plus 4-6 lanes and locals know how to push it. It seems as if drivers here like to "herd" and drive 55 or hog the passing lane, and not move over.

Driving in Orlando is a "hit or miss" I avoid I-4 and take the 528 during major events (St. Paddy's day/Rush hour) etc. just a little worse than Tampa. To me it's NOTHING compared to Houston, Miami, Atlanta. It seems you have a mix of tourists and locals plus, a bad freeway network.
