My husband and I are interested in a home that is zoned for Citrus Park Elementary School. GreatSchools.org has it rated as a 6, which is a bit of a lower rating than I'd like, especially since my daughter is coming from a fundamental school in St. Pete that is rated as a 10. However, I did see on the FL Dept. of Education website that the school received A ratings for the last two available years. She is a gifted student and I want her to feel challenged and be in a positive environment. If anyone has any input on this school, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a two friends that live in Citrus Park in a beautiful development with nice neighbors. They are both zoned for Citrus Park. Both of these friends, who don't know each other, did not like the school at all and have done school choice to get their children in neighboring schools. The problem with Citrus Park Elementary is that it is no longer a neighborhood school... many kids choice into that school and have brought it down. I would highly suggest touring the school first before committing to buying a house there. Or buy a house and hope you get school choice in case you don't like the "feel" of the school, like these 2 moms did. Also, it is the only school in the general area that has a HeadStart program.

However, earning a A is based on multiple data and is relatively hard to achieve. Sounds like kids are getting a solid start.

There is a grade protection rule, but it's normally work a little different - Let say school was A rated last year and this year it got C grade. According to this grade protection rule, school will receive B rating instead of C.

They took a tour of the school. Both said they did not like the "feeling" of the school, and did not find it warm or friendly.
