Trust me, once was enough for me at the Neighborhood Market! Nothing stood out at all (well, the awful cashier did), and we just needed a few things like soda, etc. on vacation.

We live less than 2 miles from a Super center, and have been there only once to pick up a new flat screen that we ordered online. Other than that one-time purchase, we buy nothing from them.

We are surrounded by 3 nice Targets, including a big 2 story one and the nicest Super Target I've ever seen. They get all of our business for household everything, including some pantry items and frozen foods.

Good point. Because some stores will conflate BOGO with buy one get one half off (just a 25% discount).

My Winn Dixie is one not closing, but I'd be thrilled if Kroger came down here! From Ohio and shopped there for years.

Kroger did come down here... Realized they couldn't compete with Publix and left. Super RX and Florida Choice.

Did you know Kroger Co., is the largest conventional retailer in the U.S. so if they do come to Florida again they will give Publix a run for their money especially if Kroger puts in gas stations in their stores. I liked Publix but Kroger is cheaper and bigger and has more of a selection of organic foods. And you really save $$ with their Kroger plus card.

And these advantages didn't exist 30 years ago?

Publix has given Kroger a run for its money by expanding outside Florida and across Kroger's footprint. The Kroger Company's Atlanta, Harris Teeter, Mid-Atlantic, and Nashville divisions have been challenged to improve as Publix continues to open additional stores in new locations.

Gas stations and loyalty cards can help drive sales. They are also costly to operate. Fuel prices change constantly, and fuel sales fluctuate constantly. Loyalty card programs are costly for implementing, for producing plastic cards with bar codes, for producing price tags with loyalty card pricing, and for creating confusion. I could understand why Publix divested Publix PIX locations and does not have a loyalty card program.
