My husband and I want to move from Baltimore, Md to the west side of Florida. Tampa area and south. I have lived in MD my entire life.
We have been submitting resumes -
question - Are companies (biotech) less likely to call you for an interview with an out of state address?
Should we state on the cover letters we are not looking for relocation fees?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tammy

I am moving this thread to the Tampa forum in hopes that you will receive posts from those "in the know" in your desired relocation city. Best of luck to you.

I would never state anything about compensation (even if you are stating no reloc fees) in a cover letter, just from a professional standpoint.

I don't know about that field, but I haven' tfound businesses to care if you are in state or out as long as you make it CLEAR that you are definitly moving to Tampa at such as such time.

I would absolutely not move before securing a job.

A few things though, right now the job market sucks (not just in Tampa). So I think it's hard to compare now and then. Also, maybe it's different fields, but I've never, ever had someone call me and say they got my resume. I've been called for interviews, but never just to confirm receipt

Default Relocation

Why? The job market her sucks. I am a professional with lots of career experience and I am looking to relocate to nj/md. The cost of living here is high. Yes, you can buy a house cheap but homeowners insurance is high and schools suck. Research it really well; the salaries are extremly low.
Good luck,

I usually apply for jobs online and would always get an email back. Now that I have another counties areacode I get no response at all. I do not think its because of the job market its not like I am looking for salary professional work. I blame my phone number!

Most companies won't bother with out of state candidates because there are too many variables. You might change your mind, have trouble moving on time, etc.
You need to have a place here, so they know your not a dreamer just fishing for offers.

The job market is not that good here and pay is usually a lot less than up north, so unless you are ready to retire I would re -think. Housing out of site and pay very low.
