is there a big city where traffic is "great" or "terrific"?

Back in 1986 they were redoing the interstate thru the city kitty. Tampa has been bad since the 60's. The Airport area around Danashores was always backed up in the AM. Going toward the airport from downtown was always backed UP in the AM and PM.

I also never saw in the ATL burbs anything like the gridlock I see on 54/56 in Wesley Chapel.

When Tampa traffic seems to be getting worse than ATL traffic, you know TPA is heading in the WRONG direction.
This has been my experience as well. Only once did I get stuck in any sort of traffic in Atlanta, and that was at peak rush hour hitting that bottleneck on I-75/I-85 through Downtown.
I never saw anything out there remotely close to the mess we have on SR-54 through Land O' Lakes and Wesley Chapel, and again, trying to get to I-4 from the Veteran's Expwy.

Heck, I haven't seen anything as messy as I-275 even in South FL.

Another issue is that over half of Pinellas County doesn't have access to a freeway. The only ways in and out are via local roads, either 19 or McMullen Booth going North/South, Hillsborough/Tampa Rd going SE into Tampa, or that God-forsaken SR-54 trying to catch I-75 East, which easily takes at least an hour to get to. So you have EVERYONE who lives out there spilling into local roads all at once. And nothing is being done about it.

It sounds like... in a way, Tampa's traffic is much like Nashville's traffic. I'm a 6 year former resident of Nashville and one of the biggest downsides was how terrible the traffic was all around the city. Our friends from church used to affectionately call it "Crashville" lol. It was like the infrastructure was never designed for how many people have moved to the area (and still are moving there to this day). It seems like Tampa's infrastructure isn't meant to accommodate the influx of residents that have been moving to the area.

It gets pretty bad in Miami. Try taking the MacArtur Causeway over to Miami Beach. South Beach has the worst traffic I’ve seen in the US.

Yeah, parts of northern Pinellas can get bad too. I remember rush hour on McMullen was really bad. 19 used to be, but I think it has improved a lot after they remade it into what’s almost an interstate. Southern Pinellas has never really been bad, although downtown St. Pete is getting there on the weekends.
