So, it can be bad on some stretches of the highway. When I got my first job I was commuting from USF to downtown, about 15 miles, and it was averaging over an hour about a decade ago. Malfunction junction, I-75 in Brandon, the Howard Frankland, and Bruce B Downs are a few other bad spots… If you have to go through those areas then it’s fair to say traffic in Tampa is bad. If you can avoid those areas, traffic really isn’t too bad. As a whole I don’t think traffic in Tampa is particularly good or bad.

I have done service work for over 40+ yrs in the Tampa Bay area. That has required me to drive back and forth all over the tampa bay area making appointments. Being on time is a must, so you better know your roads to take and not take at certain times. Knowing where to live to make your commutes less suicidal is a plus. Unfortunately most people don't take the commute seriously and would rather buy their house, then complain about their commute for the next 7 yrs until they sell and move.

I was in Atlanta for 6 days last week. I drove back and forth from Fayetteville to Alpharetta. I-85, I-75, GA-400 and not once did I get stuck in traffic like what we are seeing on 275 daily in Tampa. Atlanta has a lot more freeways; Tampa has a quarter of the amount of freeways it needs.

I also never saw in the ATL burbs anything like the gridlock I see on 54/56 in Wesley Chapel.

When Tampa traffic seems to be getting worse than ATL traffic, you know TPA is heading in the WRONG direction.
