Well, how about all those single men and single women with no children whatsoever that were dumb enough to get talked into buying life insurance, and they die? They're dead. We never understood the wisdom in this for example only.

Re: auto insurance with progressive. I moved from Tampa to port Charlotte 1 1/2 years ago. Had recently paid my semi annual premium of about 1000 for our two relatively recent vehicles.

I contacted my agent to change my address to the new house. Couple weeks later I get a check in the mail from progressive for over $200. Checked with agent, they said that I now live in a cheaper area, that Tampa is expensive for car insurance.

Had no idea it could be that much different...

It's all based on ZIP and FIPS codes. You could potentially move a few blocks from your present dwelling and see an increase or decrease as a result.

It's all about statistics.

To get the best car insurance rates, it's best if you can try to be a married woman and be a non-renter in a rich neighborhood. If you can just be all that, you get a better deal.

We recently purchased a 1992 manufactured home with a new this year roof. In Clearwater, 1.5 miles from Tampa Bay. We paid 60k.
When calling brokers for quotes, we were quoted $3,600. Per year as best price.
For the first time in our lives, we are NOT going to buy home insurance.

Believe me, as California refugees "said with all seriousness", We have always paid highly for fire and earthquake in California.
This time, as we paid cash, we're taking our chances. No bank involved to insist we get insurance.
Through my many years on the planet, I've only seen about a .03% of people lose their homes due to natural disasters (if that).

If our house is blown away, we have other options.
That is simply what we chose to do. Insurance companies are in the business of making BIG bucks. Period. BIG bucks.

Going “bare” is certainly an option, but if you went into your purchase with due diligence and eyes wide open this would not have come as a surprise. That’s due to your location and it being a manufactured home, which has a very high likelihood of being damaged in even a low level hurricane.

I don’t blame you for going this way, I would probably do the same.

My car insurance went from like 120 to 200 when I moved to Florida. Over a year that's a thousand dollars more. Not exactly insignificant
