I miss the good old days when everyone just put duct tape on their windows and called it a day.

I've evac twice during my 10 yrs - with the last one a mandatory evac. Both times waited until the last day before it hit and evac because it was predicted to be a direct hit with Cat 3. Both times it went off course with minimal broken branches and fence panel damage. No regret tho, I'd hate to stick around dealing with zombie apocalypse aftermath. Nothing worth losing life or limbs over, that's what I pay the high home insurance for.

This question will obviously vary wildly given where one lives and their proximity to water.
Ppl by the beaches and waterways will frequently evacuate more than someone who lives inland, where there is usually not a need to evacuate.

We just keep a canoe in the living room and sleep in it during storms.

Been in St Pete for 30 years. Went to a shelter during Irma since my elderly father was living with me and wanted to go. 2 days later came home and fences were down on half the block and some trees down. No electric for 6 days. It was hot. Bought a generator after Irma and have never used it. Never lost electricity since. Lucky. Not even during Ian. No shelter again. Will only leave if it's a 4 or 5 and a direct hit. But look at the death toll from Ian. Flooding and being on the water is something to take very seriously. Better to evacuate then to drown.
