I need advice on a house we are looking to rent in S. Tampa. The house in on West Ballast Point Blvd. just south of Gandy.

What is this neighborhood like? We are mainly concerned about safety.

My old neighborhood. It's fairly safe with some up and coming areas. Mostly you'll see alot of the "red neck" stereotype around. Location is conveniently close to alot of stuff as well. Go to google maps and type in the address and click "street Level" to see pictures of the neighborhood.

FYI: Interbay Meat Market (big green building) is THE BOMB! I wouldn't buy groceries there, but their Deli and prepared foods ROCK. BEST breakfast Cuban EVER!

I'm white and my husband is Indian. Do you think we'll have any race problems there?

No. Tampa is a very racially diverse city and SOG (South Of Gandy) is not an exception. I think you'll do okay. It's not the most cosmopolitan area of town, but it's far from segregationist; and you're close to Hyde Park/SoHo, Palma Ceia, WestShore, etc.

Thanks! We really wanted Palma Ceia but we have three dogs so renting has been a nightmare. I think we'll take it.

Three dogs! Wow..LOL..even pet friendly places might not be keen on that so I can see your dilemma. You're moving to a really great city. I wish I could be an ambassador sometimes here because it can be difficult for newbies to find the good stuff. There's a great dog park nearby on Davis Islands for the pups!

Our third dog is a Toy Pomeranian and my husband keeps assuring me he shouldn't really count as a dog .

We'll definitely check out Davis Island!

No, you can't have the ambassador job because TampaGuy03 has that job.

I lived even further south of Gandy for about 16 years up until 2001, and my sister has lived a few blocks from Robinson High School for about 10 years or more. I've never had any concerns for my safety down there. The most my sister has experienced is a few "mischief crimes", egging her car, or stealing mangoes off of her tree. I think you will be just fine. I agree with Angel, the most you may encounter would be a redneck neighbor or two. I find most everyone south of Gandy to be friendly, down to earth and harmless. I think you are extremely lucky to find a place to allow you to rent w/three dogs.... good luck on the move.
