Hopefully someone that lives in these areas of Tennessee has some pics and/or advice as to which area is better in respect to a clean town, great views of the mountains, employment, and low crime? sthepoet@hotmail.com

Hopefully people who live in those towns will answer your question.

Both towns are east of Knoxville, one to the left of the interstate, one to the right. But the main thing is the HUGE difference in size and population. Newport is much, much bigger than Dandridge.

Dandridge is a real nice small town with mountain views and little crime and little employment.

Newport, on the other hand, has more to offer of everything (except nice small town atmosphere.)

I think you need to decide what size town you want ... and that would be one of the deciding factors.

Good luck to you!

Grannylois, Thank you so much for your information, we are in between 2 small towns here in Minnesota, maybe to you they will be really small towns, 4 miles from a town named Frost, population 135, and 3 miles from Bricelyn population 210, so are you talking Dandridge being smaller than that?? We are also wanting some nice views, we live where all we see for miles is corn fields. Want some nice mountain views.Again thanks for the information. hopefully someone out there has some pics, that would be very helpfull.

You can look up the population figures for Dandridge and Newport here on city-data.com.

Dandridge is a bit smaller than Newport, but Dandridge is only a few miles from Jefferson City which is about the same size as Newport. Also, Dandridge is only 20 minutes from East Knoxville which has a ton more shopping and other services.

Newport probably has more mountain vistas since it's closer to the mountains than Dandridge. You can look on a map and see which city is closer to Gatlinburg.

I posted pictures of Dandridge a few months ago on here. Do a search for "pictures of Dandridge" or something like that. Dandridge is also located right smack on a large, beautiful lake. I mean literally, downtown Dandridge is right on a lake. It's really nice.

Population of Newport was around 7600 if i remember correctly. It's about 35 - 40 minute drive to Pigeon Forge going down 411 from Newport. Haven't done a straight shot to Gatlinburg from Newport yet to know the time frame there.

I did Cosby to Gatlinburg several times a couple weeks back and it was right at 30 minutes. Newport is about 10 minutes the other way from Cosby so you can do the math...about 40 minutes from Newport to Gatlinburg.
