I love this site. I think I've logged hours here during the last couple of years. I have searched by the County we are in (Overton) and have found many cool sites nearby that otherwise never would have know about or found.
Tennessee Landforms

TNHilltopper, you may know of some of these sights nearby you.

This looks like a great site. I'll definitely have to spend some time checking it out. Thanks for sharing it.

From this link: Overton County Landforms

I have hiked or visited the ones in bold

OVF001 Big Sunk Cane Falls 70'
OVF009 Blue Hole Br Falls 17'
OVF002 Falling Springs Falls 10' private
OVF003 Flat Creek Falls 20' private
OVF004 Hell Hole Falls
OVF012 Orange Falls 15'
OVF005 Rainbow Falls 110'
OVF011 Roaring River Falls 13'
OVF008 Spring Falls 10'
OVF006 Triple Falls 110' private
OVF013 Upper Waterloo Falls 5' TSR
OVF007 Waterloo Falls 35' TSR
OVF010 West Bow Falls TSR
OVA001 Cravenstown Arch 37x12 private
OVA002 Crawford Arch 9x6 private
OVA003 Dry Hollow Arch 15x10 private
OVA004 Hanging Limb Arch 35x9 private
OVA006 Honey Springs NB 5x2 private
OVA005 Lick Hollow Arch 60x10 private
OVL001 Standing Stone Lake state park

I might have seen one or two of the local arches like the one in Hangin limb or Cravenstown but since it is private property, I can't remember if I did or not.

I will tell you that Rainbow, Orange and Bluehole are out my backdoor literally. Although only a few mile hike, the terrain is very vertical, very rugged, and quite possibly one of the finest weekend hikes I have ever made. Looking back on that trip, I would never do it alone again because if a person were to injure themselves in such a place, the only ones who would know you were there would be the buzzards. Just look at the topo of the area and you can see that even if you tell mountain rescue in Hangin Limb, it may be days before they would find you.

All the same, I can't wait to do it again.

Well the problem with google earth is that in rural and remote locations, the resolution of the maps and areal views is not all that great. When you get down to the 7 minute ranges, most folks require you to subscribe to a service, like Terraserver. I will say that google earth is one of the greatest mapping tools out there and anyone who hasn't played around with it, might want to take a look at it, great stuff!

If you use Google Earth also check the box with Google Community and Tourist box, Yes that's one thing that gets me is the resolution but by checking the box's it will allow you too get a possible web site with more infromation and photo's on the icon that's on the map with out zooming in.....I'm cheap I don't subscribe too any thing unless I have too.

That is great to know, Tinman. I have been using Google Earth a lot myself lately and the rural resolution has been bugging me, also, like TnHilltopper. I will go the new route so I can actually tell a tree from a car! Thanks.

Thanks, TnHilltopper, these will make for some great weekend hikes - if we have any stamina left after the drive up to some of these sites.
