From what I gather a nice home in Chatt for say $250K would fetch $600K on Staten Island with no land to go with it.
Years from now?

No one knows what any place will be like “years from now”.

Word of advice: plug yourself into as many social outlets as possible. If you've never lived in a small city, you should know that places like Chattanooga, Asheville, Greenville, Augusta, Mobile, heck even Birmingham and Knoxville, can be great places for young adults, but also very hard to meet other people in similar situations. Especially if you're in the suburbs. Don't misunderstand, I think it's great to buy property as soon as you can afford it. That's why I'm recommending that you get into as many social groups as you can (hiking, climbing, running, soccer, church/synagogue, swimming, boating/skiing, art, technology, etc.). Chattanooga has a lot of such social outlets.
