I lived in Paris the first 18 years of my life and moved back after retirement 12 years ago. I have never regretted the move. It may not be Mayberry, but in my opinion it is close.

As for drug problems, we have a great young sheriff who is making progress on this front. I am not sure we have more crime problems than any other town.

We have one of the most picturesque downtowns in the country and there is a downtown business association which is doing a good job to keep the downtown vital.

It is not fair to drive through a town unassisted and judge it by the "saloons" you see on the street you may have gone down. Get with a realtor, a Chamber of Commerce Person, or any downtown merchant for advice.

I am sorry you didn't like it, but you didn't see the same Paris that I see every day.

look at this as an example of things that are happening here: Robert E. Lee Academy for the Arts.

I was born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in East Tennessee. I moved back to Columbus to seek new opportunities and I hated the whole city. I lived on the east side inner city and spent time all over, from Whitehall to Upper Arlington. I wouldn't give up on it I had many experiences in Columbus and still I hated it. I moved to back to East Tennessee and I love it. I'd recommend Elizabethton if you're looking for a small, friendly place. It's right outside of Johnson City. It's a well kept beautiful town with friendly people for the most part. Obviously Paris needs to start from the ground up with their problems. Reading, writing, arithmetic to start out?

crime index is 411.8 for Paris TN

Yes that is a little higher than the crime index of the US ( 320.9)

I wonder if some of the people bashing Paris over crime, live in a city with an even higher crime rate.

Some posters proclaim Morristown is the greatest, yet get defensive when their crime index of 541 is brought up.
