Considering that some people are losing their jobs or may be on the verge of it, let's see if we can keep a thread going throughout the year of free events we find out about in Tennessee. It doesn't have to just be a fair or festival. It could be a free tour, a free concert, a free presentation, a parade, a free show, a re-enactment/living history event, etc.

Post:

1. the name of the event
2. the date of the event
3. the town where the event will take place
4. a link to the web page for the event, if there is one

Also, if you have been to the event in previous years and want to say something about it, do that, too.

The Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville usually has "Frist Friday" during the summer months, and also special "family days" when there is free admission.

The next "family day" is March 29: Frist Center for the Visual Arts - Nashville, TN -

If you have children, there is a hands-on workshop on the second floor with all kinds of art-making activities.

The Natchez Trace Parkway which begins in southwest Davidson County (near Bellevue) is a great place to take a scenic car or bicycle ride. With spring just around the corner (hopefully), it would be a great time to take a drive.

The Parkway is run by the National Park Service. This is their website: Natchez Trace Parkway (U.S. National Park Service)

My suggestion if you go: make a day of it, don't be in a hurry, just enjoy the scenery and the beauty of the area. It's nice anytime, but especially so in the spring and fall.

Laura, several years ago we were in Nashville for a while with my mother-in-law in the Vandy hospital. I took our two young sons out to see what we could see on limited funds. The oldest, around 9 then, started grabbing all the little brochures about places around Nashville. If we did all the things they found for free it would have taken us a couple days! We started at the museum downtown and went from there!

Radnor Lake is one of Nashville's best-kept secrets. Actually, it's not a secret but I'm sure many newcomers have never been. It is one of the "special places" in Nashville.

I was thinking more in terms of events as opposed to ongoing free locations.

I'm thinking free ongoing activities (like Museums, lakes or parks) are easier to find with basic research.

A free event, though, could be a one time event inside the park like a special tour guide hike or some kind of learning event or some kind of park celebration that you want to tell people about. In a free museum there might be a free one time exhibit or a Family Day (as mentioned) you want to alert people to. At a lake, there may be a rowing competition event, fireworks display, festival.
