What makes you think that everybody who has come from Cal to live in Texas are originaly from California. They could actually be from another state originaly. And, I don`t like Texas either. That`s why I would never live there.

White people who do use the word tend to go behind closed doors and say it amongst each other.
I'm white and was born and raised in Texas. I can count on one hand...literally...the number of people I have known in my life who used the "n" word like that. The white people I am friends with do not use that word behind closed doors amongst other whites either.

They're not people with whom I hang around.

I do hear it from blacks and don't get it, but I also hear it from whites. Again, from none with whom I congregate. I choose to "hang" with intelligent people.

I hear it mostly from the older southerners. Of course, it's not nearly as prevalent as it was many years ago. Nevertheless, it's just totally unnecessary.
I'm from California and I never heard the word used until I visited or moved to Texas.

Au contraire. I'm only speaking of my experience.

Actually the most racist Americans I've met have been either from the northeast or the west coast.

You are the exception, rather than the rule. I agree with most on here that it is highly unusual out side of the black community.

When I 1st moved to Arlington to go to UTA back in the 70's, there was a BBQ place right by the campus run by an old Black Man. The name was Big N****'s BBQ. Even back then it was not a word most white people used around here.
