Yours was a legitimate try, but the "black bean lottery" incident, while it involved a rag-tag "army" of backers of pre-independence Texians, did not occur on what would later be Texas soil. It happened in Mexico.

The "war" I'm referring to in my question happened after Texas became a state. Another clue, it happened after the Civil War too. And the clue I was going to give today anyway:

Access to a natural resource vital to humans for thousands of years was at issue in "the war" - not water, fuel, or medicinal herbs, but right up there in importance.

WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE WAR, AND OVER WHAT WAS IT FOUGHT?

Bonus points for approximated dates that this occurred.

Okay. It's been 24 hours without another guess, so here's another clue.

US-62/180 crosses through the area where the natural resource can still be found and the land to which access was in dispute during the "war."

I'll be away now until Monday a.m. so you have plenty of time to dwell on the subject.

LOL Ok, but before you go, here is my answer...realizing ahead of time it will very likely not be the "correct" one. All I can come up with is that, in vague Texas History recollection, it had something to do (as you confirmed) with salt and was it about property rights (mineral rights) between Mexicans and Texas residents out in far West Texas?

Ok. That is all I have to say! LOL

I'm drawing a blank my self. I know a little about Texas Ranger history but mostly typical stuff like the capture of Sam Bass, Harding, and the indian wars etc.
