I just got an email back (FINALLY) on one of the houses I inquired about last week. My email, as well as about 40 other people's were included in his mass response. He's started a page for people to view the pictures, as well as an email to leave references, your credit score and a resume.

Um...yeah. I have an excellent rental history & references, but I'm not applying for a job. He can kiss my, well...you know. :O

So this brings me to the realization that other towns will be our only option. Any suggestions? Lubbock was the only place that seemed to have choices. Am I missing an amazing place that's close by?

There is a lot of traveling going back and forth in between Midland and Lubbock. But I wouldn't do it on a daily bases. You're taking 4-6 hrs a day and X amount of days a week.

Anyhow, here is a name/number of a few apartments in town I would check out.

Blue Ridge: this place just opened and has a now leasing sign out front.

Vantage Quality: they have a 3BR apartment available Oct/21 for 1179.00, you really need to call now if interested.

Not missing any 'amazing' place....

Lubbock is about 2 1/2 hours away. Honestly, after you make that drive a time or two, you won't want to make it real often. SVTRay can tell you from experience (as can I), it is a BORING trip, with a total lack of scenery. However Lubbock is 2 1/2 times larger than Midland. It is just REAL far away.

Monahans, Sterling City, Big Spring, Andrews are all much closer, but all with their own attendant problems, and housing might just be as difficult to find in those towns as well.

I made a move to Canyon Tx last year. Being a college town, it was incredibly difficult to find housing for my family. Took several months, and finally a workable house came up, but it was nearly a year later before we found a nice rental. I can't offer hope, I can only tell you that you are not alone.

Best of luck to you!

Forgot to mention, another real estate agent to check with is Jan Melton and her daughter Callie Stevens. We rented through them when we moved back to Midland the last time. They did property management/or outright owned quite a few rental properties in Midland.

You're right. We'll head up to Lubbock every once and a while...do some shopping and check out Joe's Crab Shack. Anyhow, it's an okay trip everyone and a while but you couldn't pay me enough to do it every day and I'm a driver lol

The Hubbs is a driver too. He told me he'd rather drive 2-3 hours every weekend to go home than 8-10 hours every 6 weeks or so. He doesn't mind boring drives since he's used to it, but it would drive me nuts to make that type of trip. I cringe at the thought of going out to San Diego. The vacations are great, but the drive out there is the worst! Desert, tumbleweed, more desert. Blech!

I found the realtors website that debz recommended. She had some great links for rentals on there. I'm going to get on the horn this morning and see what's still available.
