I know it has been asked before, but the replies are a little dated.

Which major cities are the best for interracial couples (white female/black male)?

We are a professional, middle aged couple who recently moved to Houston and I have to say the culture here seems quite segregated.

We have both felt the disapproving looks when in public from our own individual race, to the change in tone/welcoming when wait staff, hotels, even landlords, meet us in person and see we are interracial? One of us will get all the attention and the other one is ignored. We have experienced it enough consistantly we don't want to settle down in Houston?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I see Interracial couples everyday. Sounds to me like your paranoid and exaggerating based on the fact you assume that people will have a problem with you all because of the fact your in a interracial relationship. And being that Houston is the most diverse city in Texas and the most integrated cityin Texas you might want to consider moving out of TX.

I'm part of an interracial couple and we live in Plano (a suburb of Dallas). Never had any problems whatsoever.

That said I'm surprised you do. Houston is a pretty tolerant place in my opinion.

I would have thought any of the big 5 would be fine for you, but if you don't like Houston, then try Austin, Dallas/ FW, or SA. Anyone of the should be fine for couples similar to you guys. Also, it would be helpful to know what else you crave in a city.

If you have problems in Houston then you'll likely have problems anywhere. As someone else pointed out, Houston is the most diverse, integrated, and arguably the most accepting city in Texas.

I know more than just a few interracial couples and none of them have expressed any problems with Houston. They're everywhere here. Most Houstonians are far too busy with their own lives to be concerned with race.

I agree with Nairobi. El Paso Is pretty laid back & tolerant of everybody, too. I've never known so many people whose families included Anglos, Blacks, & Mexicans. I don't think Texas cities are a problem.

WOW, thats a first!

Houston is about as integrated as they come.

It was recently ranked as THE most diverse city in the US.

I've had people from NYC who moved to Houston tell me how amazed at how diverse it is.
