I was in Longview and Marshall for Thanksgiving and was in East Texas for a good week. It's been awhile since I've been back home to East Texas during the Fall. And I wish I would have brought my camera with me, I forgot how beautiful East Texas is during the Fall season. If you are a photography I suggest showing off East Texas and posting some pictures here. I might be back in December so I'll definitely take advantage of the seasons. I suggest if you have some free time others should do the same.

Aye, I was wishing I had taken pics of the Tyler area this past weekend too. I was up that way this past weekend and relatives of mine and I were saying the same thing. They've lived in states from the southeast to the mid atlantic (virginia, north carolina etc.) and even they said it was beautiful. Ive avoided saying this prior to this fall but, as someone who has visited and lived in states with beautiful falls, I can honestly say that Tyler/Longview and surrounding areas more than holds its own. I wont go so far as to say it edges out states like NC, Tennessee, or VA, but it is right up there.

...I was wondering the same thing. Kathryn? Matt? Where are our fall pictures?

I assumed that Northeast Texas would've been weeks past peak already, though. Especially in Texarkana, Atlanta, Daingerfield, etc.

I'll say it for you it holds it's own. And I had forgot all about that till my recent trip back home. I guess when you grow up there for so long and that's all you know you kind of take those things for granted. I know I did when I was younger. I didn't place any real value on those things till I moved out of east Texas.

The Tyler/Longview area is absolutely beautiful right now. The other day when the wind was blowing, yellow leaves were dancing all over the road, and I really wished I had my camera.

I may get out tomorrow and take a few shots. Thanks for the prodding! If I do, I'll post the pictures!

I'm a native East Texan and when I went home for Thanksgiving, I was amazed at how beautiful the leaves are this year!!! I can't remember the colors being that vibrant in a long, long time.

I started a thread in the Dallas forum of the pictures I took here (which I think is more spectacular since more of the trees are deciduous) but I had taken one good picture in East Texas a few weeks ago that I wanted to post here but the picture seems to have disappeared. If I happen to find it, I'll post it. If not, maybe next year...

No offense, but I've never understood why people claim that evergreens ruin fall foliage.

The East Texas countryside is very piney, but there's tons of deciduous in the cities. Texarkana is as good as it gets in Texas.

Awesome post.. Ive always said the same thing. The thing I like about the Tyler area in particular is that there is a very even mix of evergreens and deciduous trees. What this does is it offers an effect of contrasting shades. Instead of having a solid sheet of bright reds, yellows and oranges against a blue sky, you have a great blend of darker greens to even out the color spectrum. Parts of Tennessee and Arkansas achieve the same affect. I personally like it.
