Can ya'll recommend a fun place to drive to from Austin that is within 8-10 hours or less?

La Mansion on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Have dinner of brunch at their lovely restaurant, Las Canerios.

Fredericksburg! Rent a guest cottage from these folks: Fredericksburg Texas Lodging | Gastehaus Schmidt | 866.427.8374
I have stayed in 3 of their cottages and suites, and all were awesome! I highly recommend the Angel Inn for an anniversary weekend. It has a balcony overlooking Main Street that is just perfect for people watching and enjoying a glass of wine!

Hasn't been as nice since Omni took over a few years ago--same with Las Canarias. That used to be my all-time favorite place--they ripped out all the charm & turned it into a generic anywhere hotel.

I'd also recommend Fredricksburg. Check out some of the wineries--I know Becker had/has a B & B.

First things first - what do the two of you enjoy doing? Shopping, visiting historical places, the outdoors (and if so, hills and walking or the beach or something else entirely)? Your limitation of 8-10 hours or less opens up a lot of possibilities.
