The media has done a good job of creating this atmosphere where if you have a preference for things like trucks, hunting or fishing, western attire, or just look like you work with your hands that you must be a dullard. I just never thought that pure elitism would be the way of the so called pro-working class liberal.

But yes, coming from the South, especially from Texas, you first have to prove yourself to people on the coasts before you advance.

Well, there are a lot of bigots in Texas. There's no denying that.

The problem is that when there are bigots revealed in other states such as the reports on heavy white supremacist activity in the Orange County, riverside county and other places, the general image of a CA being a tolerant bastion doesn't get smeared.

Probably because Texas is thought of as a repeat offender.

Which again is mostly a media bias. The smaller incident in Texas is turned into a big story. Anything that happens in other states is just a random occurrence that bears no reflection on the state.

I don't think so. Some pretty outrageous stuff happens in Texas more often than rarely. Texas puts itself in the news.

No it doesn't. You just see it that way because the media has painted it as a Texan thing or a thing that can only happen in Texas. I assure you the outrageous stuff that happens in Texas happens in other states as well including blue states.

No it doesn't.

Murder of James Byrd Jr

Texas has earned the reputation it has, whether we like it or not.

I knew this was going to be brought up. That incident shocked the State as much as the country and the animals that did that were rightly judged.

Yet the incidents of murder by a few rednecks seem to override the immense progress the state has done but the systematic incidents of racism by police in places such as LA, SF and NYC don't deter anyone from thinking those places are any less than the bastions of progressivism they portray themselves out to be.

Give it up. You're just peddling something that is as outdated as anything.

I had a slew of articles linking the high incidences of white supremacist violence in southern california with many california white pride gangs engaging in violence against people of color. It's probably more prevalent in the OC, Riverside and San Diego than anywhere in the country or just as much. Yet, this isn't seen as a slight against California's image.

No one thinks of creating a media bias that paints these incidents as uniquely Californian. They're seen as separate incidents of hate crimes. Yet, when an incident happens in Texas, it's just a given. Due mainly toward the bias against the State.

TOP TEN STATES WITH THE MOST ACTIVE HATE GROUPS IN 2014
1. California - 57
2. Florida - 50
3. New York - 44
4. New Jersey - 40
5. Pennsylvania - 38
6. Texas - 36
7. Tennessee - 29
8. Georgia - 28
9. Virginia - 27 (tie)
9. Ohio - 27 (tie)

Racism and hate is a nationwide problem. Not a Texas thing.
