Probably against it. Even lower middle class Texans have Mexican paid help.

I'm for it ... build the wall ... much more upsides than downsides.

I support it. Any nation should have a wall dividing itself from other nations, for obvious reasons. I support legal immigration 100 percent.

That is totally unrealistic for so many reasons. Should an island nation build a wall around its coast? Should mountainous nations put a wall through the mountains? What about the cost? Can you imagine how much it would cost to put a wall around China? I could list lots of other reasons why this is one of the more idiotic ideas I've heard. I don't like illegal immigration either but this is a poorly conceived idea to put it mildly.

Those of you who support it, where do you think the $21.6 billion should come from? (No fair pretending that Mexico will pay for it.)

I think the concept of a "wall" is most popular among nationalist, pseudo-conservatives that don't live anywhere near the border (Midwest, Appalachia, Southeast, Pennsyltucky...I mean Pennsylvania etc.)...the types that voted heavily for Toupee Fiasco.

These places are much more homogeneous and don't see the strong connection between Mexican migrant workers and the U.S. economy. I've seen too many well dressed Anglo businessmen pulling up in their shiny Ford F-250's, rounding up day laborers in the 'hood, to think that anything will ever get accomplished.

If white settlers can "claim" land because it's their God-given right, why shouldn't Mexicans re-claim land that their ancestors previously occupied (CA, AZ, NM, TX etc.). I think I'll travel to England and claim a few acres in the name of Black Jesus. I'll farm it, look for gold and try to convert the natives!

The wall is a band-aid. The majority of illegal aliens from Mexico are coming to the US because they are trying to feed their family. And Americans, or should we say 'Mercans are doing the hiring because they can pay extra low wages since you have the workers in a compromised position. You have created a symbiotic relationship. Take away the job opportunities (make hiring an illegal alien a serious crime) on the US side, and you can quash a lot of the incentive to come here. You don't need a wall.

I agree that the wall appeals to nationalists. Unfortunately all the tough talk about the 'wall' has enabled the voice of a fringe segment of society that is sounding more and more like they would have fit well into South Africa a few decades ago. I see more and more inflammatory comments on news articles. Just last week I read the comment section under a Greg Abbott article about sanctuary cities. There was a discussion about positioning automated guns on the wall to pick off Mexicans as they attempt to cross. Then that discussion delved into making it into a video game where people could log in and fire the guns remotely. Then there was talk about imposing monthly fees so the 'game' could pay for the wall. Funny right? Lots of lols were had for everyone. And keep in mind this discussion was in the comment section of an article written by the governor. THAT is the voice of society that you are enabling by supporting the wall.

I live in Texas and I will tell you a wall is a waste of money. Those who support do not live in the border states and have no idea what is going on here. We can build a wall to funnel crossings to more remote parts of the country but no way in hell will be eliminate the crossing. I would suggest anyone take a low level aircraft ride along the border and then report back who effective you think a wall will be. I am all for a wall if Mexico plays for it but I know this will never happen. Take jobs away from illegals and we will severely curb the problem. Neither side is purposing we lockup up folks who hire illegals. Until this happens we are just spinning our wheels.

lets do some math - 10 20 million illegals

1. 1/2 or more on welfare - 10 m x say 600 month x12 =72billion
2. 10 m free heath care -say 400 / per month = 48billion
3. say 1/4 for food stamps 5 m x 200 month = 12 billion
4. say 1/4 free education - 5m x 6000/ yr = 30b
5. say 105 on section 8 housing vouchers - 2m x 700month x 12 = 16.8 b
6. how many have been killed by illegals per year - you put a number on that
7. cost of local, state fed law enforcement - you put a cost to that

i say build the wall and if it cost 100 b - and 1/2 of the illegals return where they come from - we are in the black in months
for those who pay state taxes wow - big win - for all of us that pay fed taxes and that drops by just 2-3% - billions more

build it high build it fast
