Hopefully the mods will come in and clean up the racist trolls on this thread (doubtful), so I’ll stick to responding to real advice.

OP, this post right here gives you a great area to start looking. Housing is affordable, and there are TONS of jobs in the area. I’d even add parts of Arlington and Grand Prairie into the search. All would be a huge upgrade from where you’re at.

DFW and SA are good options.

DFW is way too expensive and spread out these days (and quickly getting progressively worse). More so than Atlanta, in fact.

I actually think San Antonio is the best option for the OP, if she doesn't mind living in a slower paced (but still nice sized) city with a majority Mexican/Hispanic population. Not a very big or strong AA presence in San Antonio, so that might be a culture shock to the OP and her kids, coming from Atlanta/the Southeast. But if she doesn't mind that and WANTS to try a different cultural and social scene, then San Antonio is going to give her the best bang for her buck.

Hi OP, first off sorry that some jerks thought it would be cute to hijack the thread.

I would suggest you consider some of the smaller cities in Texas rather than Dallas Houston Austin and San Antonio. All four of those (SA to a lesser extent) are growing so fast with such a huge influx of people that the cost of living has skyrocketed.

I would consider cities like Wichita Falls, Tyler, Waco, Temple, Texarkana, and so on, where the job market is smaller, to be sure, but so are the competition and cost of living.

I can't really speak to the A-A experience in Texas, but there are considerable Black populations in most cities in Texas from Wichita Falls eastward. I'm sure you can tell when someplace is likely to be more or less welcoming, just from your own experience.

Good luck.
