Just my opinion, but he strikes me as a pill head.

So far I get the feeling most of the posters here have not voted Democratic since Jimmy Carter, if ever. Maybe for Bill Clinton, but I doubt it.

Again, in the 2018 Texas race, Beto won about 59% of the vote of everyone who voted under the age of 45.

https://www.cnn.com/election/2018/ex...s/texas/senate

If you pay attention - the people in their 30s in 2018 were the youth vote of 2008 when Obama ran - and Beto won those people in Texas by about the same percentage as Obama won them in 2008. So people are not getting more conservative as they age, they are staying the same. O'Rourke did the best Obama impression of any Democrat in the past 4 years.

This is 2018-20, not the 1980s-90s. If you're looking for another Bill Clinton, you are not going to find one. There were a number of Clintonian moderates among the 10 candidates that got eliminated from the 3rd debate. They are polling 0-1% among the Democratic electorate. That is simply not where the energy is.

Beto is nothing like Obama. Nothing.

Agree and disagree. The Beto running for Texas senate had some commonality. The Beto running for President went off the rails.

As a woman, I am usually shocked to hear another woman say "Oh, but he's so handsome!" What? I don't get it.

And I don't personally care for his pretty filthy mouth.

Notice that I haven't said a word about his politics.

Just for fun I joined a Beto Facebook page. Anyway, thats all you see in there is "oh he is so handsome" or "Beto is so Hot"

Beto in 2019 actually has more political experience than Obama had in 2007.

You're probably thinking the 2004 DNC keynote verstion of Obama, or the Fall 2008 version. Maybe his 2012-13 version. The Obama of 2007 was nothing like the Obama of 2008 either. Nor the 2014-19 version of Obama for that matter, when he older, more tired, no longer had the magic. Even he himself could only rekindle the 2008 magic on select occasions.

I stand by my contention that Beto is the closest Obama impression we've gotten since 2015-16, with a Gen X twist. I think he is channeling the Gen X id quite well, what with the casual F bombs and all that.

Cory Booker also tries to channel Obama to some extent, with varying levels of success.

Demographics. Texas is a changin'.

In my neighborhood when I moved here every family was white in the whole neighborhood except for a black coach (married to a white woman at that).

Now, just around my house (my house is big so takes up several lots, not bragging just explaining) I have a Korean, Chinese, Indian, Hispanic, a young white family, a middle age white military family, an elderly white couple, and a French family from the south of France.

Guess what, most of those are Democrats. 10 years ago they were mostly Republicans and mostly white.

Robert O'Rourke tried to copy Obama 2008 in his TX Senate run in 2018. There was definitely an Obama 2008 energy. Robert was helped by the Ted Cruz's general unlikeable demeanor.

Robert destroyed any political capital Ted Cruz has. Republicans are generally unhappy with Cruz for nearly losing an election. I think this is Cruz's last Senate term.

I've thought about posting several times, just a possibility, Francis, may not have been as popular as his total votes showed, maybe just maybe, Republicans, were "put off" or disgusted enough with Cruz's interacting with Trump and this made Cruz less popular enough WITH Republicans, perhaps large numbers of them voted AGAINST Cruz by voting for Frances. Also, thinking Beto would not have a chance to win, so their protest vote would NOT actually help elect Beto. I've done this before, so I would think, surely, others have.
