Do you order take out or strictly eating home made food to practice food safety? If you are doing it to support small businesses, which other small businesses are you supporting or would keep supporting even if they can potentially spread virus?

Been cooking at home. Kinda getting tired of home-made meals but a take-out is not worth the risk.

Yes, I get take out frequently but only from small businesses to support them. Our nations top expert (Anthony Fauci) said in an interview he does as well. You take extra precautions like wiping off the credit card and wiping down deliveries or at the very least washing your hands as soon as you get it home.

If hes ok with no reason I should worry about it.

We are working from home and have plenty of time to cook. Food industry sends lots of people to urgent care and ER every year, we want to avoid that. This is no time to burden healthcare system and it can increase your chances to get infected by a patient or a healthcare worker there.

If you are not able to cook for some reason, like weakness or illness then it makes sense, not for able bodied healthy adults like us with plenty of free time on hands.

Dr. Fauci is obviously too busy to cook and doesn’t want to creat panic, end source of cooked food for ones who really need it or drown food industry for small risk involved.

Government was also underplaying effectiveness of mask use to flatten the curve, now they are considering it. Yes, home made and even surgical masks may not provide complete protection but they lower your chances of getting or giving it, specially necessary as we don’t know who is asymptomatic, it’s not like anyone is getting tested until they are in advance phase.

Here is the problem with your second sentence. By itself with no data comparing it to other industries, its a pretty meaningless statement. Compared to other industries and people who dont work at all, what is the rate of people in food service going to the ER and urgent care because of their work?

The other thing about Dr. Fauci is that isnt why he gets take out. Not according to him anyway. Hes surrounded by people that could bring him whatever he wants.

https://www.cdc.gov/foodborneburden/...estimates.html

CDC estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans (or 48 million people) gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and 3,000 die of foodborne diseases.

The article doesn't state where the foodborne illnesses are from. There are many more sources besides restaurants such as produce purchased at a grocery store or improper handling at home.

You raised a fair objection, restaurants aren’t the only source of food related diseases. We can’t control outbreaks originating from grocery stores or restaurants. Unfortunately you can only be sure of careful food handling and cooking process at home by doing it yourself.

Foodborne illness can happen anywhere. I’ve even gotten sick from bad chicken salad at Central Market, but it still go back there. The risk of transmitting COVID through food handling is very, very small.

Please remember that if we don’t patronize restaurants now, they won’t be around after all this is over. Service industry workers are among the hardest hit by this crisis. We all need to help them out by still buying takeout food.
