UPDATE: 2019

Less than 2 years on the job as Waco ISD Superintendent, Dr. A. Marcus Nelson was busted in nearby Robertson County for misdemeanor marijuana possession (less than 2 ounces). Waco ISD superintendent arrested in Robertson County

The WISD Board were quick to release a statement saying they won’t 'rush to any judgement’ after superintendent’s arrest

Almost immediately, a local group of religious leaders banded together to rally in support of WISD superintendent after marijuana arrest

Then, the Waco ISD superintendent agrees to plea deal with Robertson County DA whereby if he goes 90 days without any problems, his charge will be dismissed.

The question remains..... Should Dr. A Marcus Nelson be fired? Or, does he get a pass because some religious leaders have shown mercy, and so should the WISD Board? What message should be sent to students? It's ok to smoke pot of you are a big wig, but if we catch you there is zero-tolerance.

The Waco ISD Board met on Tuesday evening (3/19/19) to determine the fate of Dr. A. Marcus Nelson after being caught in possession of marijuana. WISD board takes no action on superintendent’s fate after drug arrest

After 4 hours of deliberation, the Board tanked and went home. This man failed to meet the standards set forth in his contract. But, hey, let's give him a pass because of..., well.... you know.

The Board will meet again Thursday evening (3/21/19) to revisit this topic.

I really hope they legalize marijuana in Texas soon. Something as small as 2 ounces of weed is nothing to get bent out of shape about.

I'm pretty sure most teachers would have been fired after a drug bust. I know teachers who have been fired (or non-renewed) for less. I'm not sure that administrators are due any more deference than they themselves would show to teachers in the same circumstance.

LOL I'm sure you would lose a sizable portion of the best teachers in Texas if you randomly drug tested them on any given day. People need something to take the edge off when dealing with the consequences of the average person's poor parenting.
