Killeen is definatly booming! I think it's going to pass Waco within less than 5 years.

I can see that area experience population growth. Good land, population growth to fll jobs, and places to build industry.

I would say closer to 10-15 years, that is if Waco stays on the same growth rate. Waco has roughly 125000 and growing, Killeen has 100000 and growing. I think it may turn into a battle betweeen the two cities of which will be the largest city in the area. It'll be intersesting to see how it all turns out.
IMO Waco should annex Beverly Hills, Hewitt and Robinson. That alone would boost Wacos population by 25 or 30 thousand!

Waco should really annex Beverly Hills because it's like right in the middle of the city.

At the same time. Killeen could annex Harker Heights and Nolanville which would increase Killeen's population 20-25 thousand. You really can't tell the difference between Killeen and Harker Heights nowadays. They run right along each other. But I read on the KDH newspaper site that the city counsil puts the city around 115,000 right about now.

Screw it, Waco should just annex all of McLennan County, And Killeen and Temple could split Bell County.

Huh?

In Texas, cities can't annex entire counties.

Guys, the area will grow, but let's not count on having 6 million people in that stretch anytime soon. Plus, keep in mind that Waco is a pretty good enough distance away from Temple that the rural areas in between will likely stay that way. But Temple could be at the eastern end of a potential suburban/slightly urban corridor from there to Belton to Harker Heights to Killeen to Copperas Cove with U.S. 190 connecting most of the common points. Even though all of those cities including Waco are in the same media market (Waco-Temple-Killeen MSA), it's just not going to eclipse some of the larger areas. But you will see significant changes. And I don't see a single, larger airport to be built in the future. Killeen and Waco will do fine with the airports they currently have.

And why not? If there is avaliable land around than cities can annex as much as they want, look at Houston!

Nope.

It's Texas law. Cities cannot annex entire counties. Also, Houston has not annexed all of Harris County. Don't forget there are other cities in Harris County (Pasadena, etc.), and they can annex, too. Houston will not annex again, and actually has been giving away its ETJ to areas for those cities to annex (Katy with Katy Mills), or become cities themselves (The Woodlands after 2010).
