Big D is repurposing building after building after building into residential, shopping, etc - mixed use. Some as tall as 52 stories completely gutted and restored into new uses. The square footage of THAT new construction is in the multimillions of square feet. Downtown Dallas is about to completely transform itself more of a place of life not just 8-5 M-F like Houston. And the expansion of downtown Dallas is growingl faster and faster into uptown, Trinity Groves, Design District, Victory Park, and across the river into near Oak Cliff to a point the CBD is going to be 5 times the current size in the next 20 years.

Michelle Foss, an energy economist at the University of Texas at Austin, told the Midland Reporter-Telegram: "I think people need to look back to the 1990s, with roughly 17 years of lower oil prices following the 1985 price drop, and consider a similar scenario going forward."

Houston seen a tremendous amount of office construction DOWNTOWN Because of the oil and gas industry was on fire. Now with the setback the demand for office construction plummets because oil and gas is 80% of Houston's Economy.
Dude. What. The. Heck. Are you talking about? That article was for the METROs. Houston METRO had over 17 million square feet of office space under construction and over 21,000 multi family units u/c. DFW metro had just over 6 million sq ft of office space and like 15,000 multi family units.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. The only construction downtown that's oil and gas related is Hilcorps new HQ tower. Most of the energy related companies are building in the ENERGY corridor (go figure.. )
Keep wishing..

And you can choose to ignore the facts "until the cows come home" if you want.. But that doesn't change the facts that both the linked articles and I stated.

its nice to see the downtown Dallas' vacancy rate percentage will hopefully drop below the high 20s. maybe now it wont be the most vacant major metropolitan downtown in the US anymore.

but you do realize Houston is doing just as much, if not more to transform its downtown as Dallas... right?

here is an activity map of all the projects proposed and U/C in downtown Houston (as of November). obviously a couple more have been proposed and some of the already proposed ones have started construction since November..

20+ projects under construction in downtown Houston currently, with 20 or so more proposed.
