Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum, here is the deal....I've been offered a great job in Laredo, TX in the banking industry, great opportunity and pay. I need to give my answer next week....My real dilemma is finding first about schools in Laredo. I need to find a good middle school for my son. He is in the Gift and Talented Program in Houston ISD and is currently attending a great school, and I feel bad about taking him out of this school, he is 13 yrs old.

Is there anyone that can tell me more about the schools in Laredo? I searched the web, found out there are magnet schools there, but could not find ratings or statistics,,, so I am back to the start.

Thank you for your imput...

Default United ISD

There are 2 public school districts in Laredo. United ISD and Laredo ISD. United ISD is a much better school district with much better schools.

The schools in Laredo are really bad. I wouldn't recommend a move to Laredo at all.

Default Schools In Laredo

Your best bet would be private schools in Laredo. The link below lists one of them and other useful info about Laredo.

I agree with the other posters, and also recommend UISD rather than LISD. Along with that, when you move remember to avoid anything near Mines Road, try to stick with the far northeast part of Laredo, anything off Del Mar/McPherson is reasonable new and the nicer part of town. There is also Lakeside off of Loop 20 with very nice houses. Let me know if you need anything else, I am in Laredo right now! Hot, hot, hot!

This coming from someone who gives the Rio Grande Valley glowing reviews???

Laredo and the RGV are basically the same thing. Poor mexican border cities that depend on wealthy/middle class Mexicans to shop in their malls.

You would think 210 would actually do some research before posting, but apparently not!

Did some research and here are the numbersfor crimes based on # per 100,000 people:

McAllen Harlingen San Antonio
murders 3.9 4.9 7.6
forcible rapes 18.57 33.99 54.81
robbery 130 130 172.2
agg assault 303.9 396.5 400.6
burglary 895 1840.1 1191.8
larseny theft 6115.2 5840.8 4928.1
vehicle theft 547.9 373.8 438.8

210, sounds like you need to move to the Valley instead of fighting all those violent crimes in SA!!!!

and 210, just as a side note, San Antonio was above the national average in every single category Not to mention the fact that this year so far SA has the following increases:
murder up 59.5%
robbery up 36.1%
burglary up 15.5%
vehicle theft up 26.4%

I sure hope you got some big locks and a really good security system!!
