Your right Houston does represent being the Butthole of Texas very well. This we can agree on Rep +1

Yeah, okay!!! Right. Dallas needs Ft.Worth, Arlington, GP, and Irving to be considered urban? That's a little pathetic. Even using all those cities still doesn't match up to Houston's more concentrated urban core. Houston has 3 stadiums inside its core with a 4th on the way. Dallas's stadiums are spread out between Dallas and Arlington.

Not trying to jab at Dallas but using all those cities to make Dallas seem more urban is nothing to brag about!

In the words of HoustonRonnie...

Jus' sayin

LOL, in DFW keeping the stadium in one spot for too long is bad luck for the Cowboys. They Had the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, then they moved to the Texas Stadium in Irving now they are at the 1.15 Billion dollar Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. But after this season, they might as well shut that thing Down and build a 2Billion dollar one in Mesquite.

bTW, why was the Texas stadium demolished?? was there structural issues?

Whats wrong with having stadiums in Dallas and Arlington? I cant see that it really matters, people still fill them up.

I would think it goes without saying that DFW is more fragmented that Greater Houston. We have much larger suburbs and two large cities as oppsed to one. Either way, Dallas has urban areas on its own and Fort Worth has a great downtown. I fail to see how one way is better that the other. To each their own.

A stadium is not the highest and best use for that land. Especially not since the Cowboys vacated. It will eventually be re-developed into something with much more density that will increase the tax base.

It shouldn't really matter to most intelligent people given that both metros contain approximately the same area and similar populations. Municipal lines don't mean much when you're driving through either metro since they are both very developed. But some people need to dump on other cities to make themselves feel better about their own city.

so there is something planned for the area? I didn't see the wisdom in demolishing it if something was not planned for the area.

The stadium that Rockets played in was turned into a church of all things.

That is true. There is not a wall separating Houston from Sugarland, Missouri City, Pearland, Katy etc. It is a seamless blend, it looks and acts like one giant city, so the municipal lines don't matter in terms of feel

It would have cost the city of Irving money to maintain it just sitting there empty. Now that the land is vacant, the state is going to use it as a staging area in order to re-configure the 183/Loop 12 interchange. DART rail will also be building a station there. Once completed, those improvements will make it even more attractive for future development. It will probably end up being a mixed-use transit oriented development. Here's a story from several months ago that gives a little detail about the future of that land: After Texas Stadium Implodes, Then What? | NBC Dallas-Fort Worth

couldn't they use it to stage events in the meantime like they did for the astrodome or the compaq center?
