My husband and I are considering relocation to the Austin/San Marcos area. I've been reading the forums about the area and I’ve seen people mention the fact that the school district is bad, it’s a college town and that there seems to be a lack of, dare I say “middle-aged” people?? (I'm new to this site so if this has been addressed somewhere else I apologize)

We don’t have kids so we’re not concerned about the schools but we are interested in having other people around that are our age…we live in college town in Arizona now and find that half of the population is too immature to hang out with and the other half have retired any insight? Will we encounter the same in San Marcos?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Move to Austin or San Antonio. You'll be glad you did.

I'm 38 and lived in San Marcos from 2005-2007. In two years, I only made two good friends. There are a lot of cliques; I'm very social but had difficulty making friends. Lots of people I met had live there for years. It's a small town, so everyone pretty much knows everyone. Austin is 10X better for your age group! Consider south Austin and you'll have a blast here. You'll only be 25 minutes from San Marcos and a little over an hour from San Antonio.

Feel free to send me a direct message if you have any other questions.
