We are interested in this car. For the last 30 days the salesperson has been trying to reach a specific model of car (fully loaded). She recently told us that for some reason they are not making the fully loaded version in preference for the one with less features.
We are struggling to decide whether to move on and get a different car. We already gave the dealership a deposit for the car. Or do we wait for the one we want. Originally they told us 45-90 days but it seems like the wait may be longer.
The car is for my husband. The problem is he's not really "into" any car. He's driving a 15 year old car and we think it's time to replace it. He's looking for a small (probably compact), fuel efficient car with a bit more luxury than a Honda Civic. Budget is around 30-40K.
If you have any recommendations or suggestion please post back. Thx.
If he really wants this car then he will have to wait, don't forget that they are still having problems getting deliveries from Japan because of the Tsunami.

Have you tried calling other dealerships to find this model? Or calling Lexus US corporate?
I do not see how anyone here can help you. If you want it bad enough, wait - or take a half day off to get in front of the computer and search other dealers online and make phone calls. Then plan on taking another day off or two to drive out there and pick it up, or buy a one way plane ticket, or pay $1.50-$2.00 a mile for them to put it on a rollback and send it to you, or let them put 500 or so miles on it driving it to you.

If the Lexus doesn't work, out, you could get into a 1 series BMW, an Audi A4, a C series Benz, the Volvo C30, Acura TSX, etc. Your budget gives you a lot of options.
Be sure to do the math on hybrids. They're not necessarily as cost or fuel efficient as we've been led to believe.
There aren't a whole lot of luxury compacts. A3 TDI would be the closest choice and will get similar highway mileage. Really, to me the question is if it's worth it to spend close to $40,000. It's certainly nicer than the Mazda3 but that much? Not to me. I'd at least look at the standard vanilla sedans in that price range (Maxima, Avalon, Taurus, Lexus ES, and so on) as well as the non-premium compacts. If neither of those speaks to him, it's back to the A3 TDI and CT200h. For someone who doesn't care about cars that much I think the BMW isn't a good choice. Likewise the A4 and C300 are going to be pretty stripped to get in under 40k.
We have an Acura TSX and it gets about 27.6 mpg and its pretty comfortable, very good for a daily commute type vehicle and its well under $40,000!
