Given the attention the new Camry has been getting in the press, I'd say it's exciting news for Lexus ES buyers -- most of whom probably do no read any automotive related news except what comes out of Consumer Reports. Not a fan of the styling, the out going ES was much better looking.
I love it. I also think the current one looks great too. I've been toying with the idea of getting a used 2007-12 model ES350, and hopefully once the new model is sold the old one will go down in price. Only thing is when I test drove an '09 ES350, it was almost too smooth and quiet-- can't even hear the engine running, and can't feel the road at all. Probably the most boring car I've ever driven. It would be nice if they could keep the same comfort level but give it just a little more road feel so you don't fall asleep at the wheel.
I like the overall styling of the car, but am not a big fan of the front end. The current models softer "pinch" in the middle flows a little better, IMO. If they just softened up the front end a little I think it would look better. I think Lexus has done a good job evolving from the "staid" look it had before, but they seem like they may be somewhat starting to cross into overdone.

It's interesting you say that because that's the impression I've gotten about this car. Clearly it is meant to be purely a luxury car, unlike many other smaller cars from luxury makers, which are a combination of sport and luxury. This makes me wonder if Lexus has the soft-riding, luxury car market cornered when it comes to a car this small. The only other cars I can think that are so luxury-oriented without the sport aspect were the Lincoln Town Car and Cadillac Deville. What other small car besides the ES is like that??? Maybe a Buick or Lincoln MKZ? The small cars from Acura, Infinity, Cadillac, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes all seem much more sport oriented.
All their cars look even more alike now. I mean the previous gen Lexus looked like a Lexus, and now I feel like they are copying the Hyundai Sonata (rear end), and the Kia Optima (rear side profile) with their new designs. I do like their ultra comfy interiors though, perfect for a long road trip (but I would want performance, and connectivity to the road, which Lexus's don't typically have).
WTF is Lexus doing with those grilles? I thought this was going to be contained to the GS.
I think all of Lexus cars will be this way...Even the LS
