Some of the newer models are getting bad reviews from the IIHS for crash test issues. Just 10 years ago Toyota usually did great.

Compare how the 2005 and 2012 Camry's did in the small overlap, which simulates a head on collision. In '12 the test dummies head slides past the airbag!

In the 2014 Yaris the driver's head also slides past the air bag

Yet the 2009 Matrix / Vibe had no such issue. No sliding past air bag and the beam doesn't move an inch

What's going on?

I hope your research is not random YouTube videos, because you’re being pretty intellectually dishonest if you think Toyota is cutting corners when it comes to safety.

The 2005 Camry was tested with a moderate overlap crash test

Vehicle details

The 2012 Camry was tested for both moderate and small overlap crash test.

Vehicle details

The small over lap crash test is a pretty tough test to get a good score on. The insurance industry found a better way to crash cars. IMO The offset crash test is kind of the industry joke.

The small offset crash test did not come out until 2012
