So I'm looking to fly into Toronto from the Philly area. A direct flight is $360 from PHL. A flight from Allentown to Toronto, with a layover in Philly, is only $300 (and uses the exact same flight from PHL -> YTO as the $360 ticket.) Would I have any trouble at the PHL airport if I just bought the ticket that was $60 cheaper but I skipped the flight from Allentown to Philly and just showed up at Philly International? Some bored TSA agent isn't going to jump out from behind the counter and question me or anything will he?
yes, When you attempt to get on the plane in philly, you will find that your entire trip was been canceled. When you don't show at ABE, USAir will cancel you philly connection. (and return trip). If you for some reason can talk the gate staff into letting you on the plane, they will re-price the tickets as full fare coach from PHL to YTO. ($2,200)
TSA won't care, You will go thru PHL TSA security with your pre-printed Boarding pass that you printed when you printed your ABE pass.
The airlines strictly enforce the ticket restrictions. There is a flight from LA to Milwaukee with a stopover at O'Hare. If you get off at O'Hare, even if your ticket is to Milwaukee, you will get charged a huge amount, I believe $1000.
Glad you decided against it. People have reported getting away with getting off a flight before their trip terminated (e.g., the aforementioned situation in O'Hare), though the airline could charge them fany extra fare if applicable and, of course, any other flights on the resevation would be voided. What is much more definite is that just showing up in Philly without taking the flight from Allentown would, as noted, void your entire trip. Airlines charge different prices based on market, etc. You aren't the first person to look for a way to get around the system. It wouldn't work. The airline agent at the check-in desk would tell you.
If you mean buying a one way ticket from ABE - PHL and then another one way ticket from PHL-YYZ, That would be the most expensive option. The savings you get from buying a single ticket ABE - PHL - YYZ would not be applied if you bought seperate tickets for each leg.
