I've been to both but only on day trips and it was way back in 1989-1990 or so. Saint Lucia is larger than Mustique, has major resorts. Mustique has the Cotton House and rental estates. The choice is really apples and oranges. Mustique is tiny and very private, which is why it's popular with celebs. Saint Lucia is not terribly busy (as Caribbean islands go) but bigger and more things to see. As for travel to either island, more difficult to get to Mustique or any of the other Grenadines. If you want quiet and privacy, it's worth it.
