Their cousin was 17 and Lyle was 8 when Lyle told her about the sexual abuse. I believe them.

I don't believe you can kill like that only for money. There has to be a lot of hatred and deep, too. Sometimes the level of the abuse isn't even consciously known or acknowledged by the victim till it's acted out perhaps.

I watched it. I didn't see anything new. Just a rich, dysfunctional family. The father was busy making money and having affairs while the mother was a pill-popping lush (to cover her shame and rejection).

The boys were old enough to have left if they were so unhappy, but they were unprepared for life. All their lives, everything had been given to them, including admission to Princeton, having been "bought" by the father.

Neither parent had any parenting skills. The father pushed them to be strong and hard, devoid of love or real emotion; the mother just watched, helpless to show strength or discipline.

This was truly a family that was bound to implode.

Watched the docu last nite, without being familiar with the case. I believe every word of testimony about abuse is truth. Dysfunction and abuse are all they know. Records of their mothers psychotherapy indeed has a bearing on the case, she wasn't in a mental space to help herself let alone her sons. Sexual abuse is under reported, more so for males than females. I think fear and anger, along with a comfortable affluent lifestyle influenced their choice of murder.

I agree. I do feel that if they hadn't killed the mother, they would've gotten a lighter sentence. I think I understand why they killed her. She (in their mind or even in reality) allowed the abuse to continue. There was definitely anger toward her in the killing.

Those boys went through their own hell. Unfortunately, they went about fixing it the wrong way.

That's for sure.
I didn't realize that they're separated in prison, and have not seen each other in years, although they communicate by letter.

I believe the sexual abuse. I really feel for them because of that. I think they killed the mother because of buried resentment, anger and hatred at her weakness and unwillingness to put an end to it. Enablers can be very selfish people, only thinking about what they have to go through and endure. She should have protected her boys.

I think they killed her, because from this doc it seems she was the one to do the act of trying to disinherit them. The blonde friend said she saw Kitty on the computer and Kitty said what she was writing (the new will) and the friend told her the son (I forgot which) can see and hear you. Kitty said she wanted him to. I think Lyle would have gotten away with it if he acted alone. He was the brains.

I think, from the BRIEF phone call they did with Lyle, they're (at least he) are just remorseful they got caught.

They were separated even during the trial. They had two different lawyers. I didn't know the first trial bankrupted them. I know they are poor now, but I always thought the second trial or their attempts at parole bleed them dry.
