The Canadian military leader guy who raped and murdered 2 women. Something about him, even though there's been way worse serial killers, with more numbers.

This guy just struck me as an empty shell that should've done anyway with himself, before he did his deeds.

I think this was the guy who took a lot of photos of himself in women's underwear? He was a real creep.

The Ariel Castro kidnappings.

Not necessarily the brutality of it, but that he could get away with that crime for as long as he did, being a man of such little resources.

Absolutely blows my mind... like still can't believe that was possible.

The Christine McFadden story.

She was, and still is, a successful veterinarian in California, whose ex-husband killed all three of her children from a previous marriage, the little girl they had together, and then himself, while she was out for a morning walk before work in 2002. He was a loser who couldn't get by on his own, and she refused his desire to reconcile.

She appeared on Oprah and told her story, and the pain was just so raw and horrific. She talked about how she had willed herself to go on. I will never, ever forget it. But one thing that has always bothered me was that there were things in his past that should have been a red flag to her. We women are so easy to give someone the benefit of the doubt.

Unfortunately, this kind of shocking and unspeakable crime seems to be happening with more frequency today. An ex- partner, usually the man, but not always, decides he is not only going to take his own life, but leave his wife/children's mother with the life-altering anguish of taking their kids with him. No evil or level of selfishness can ever compare to this kind of crime.

I live in Indiana. Such innocence in a small town. No one has been charged. There is a man and his father that are kind of suspects. I don't think the police have called them that though.

Yep, deb100 is right. I didn't know that either.

Rudy Eugene, 31, was killed by a police officer after Eugene’s 18-minute attack on a homeless man. His body didn’t show “any other street drugs, alcohol or prescription drugs, or any adulterants found in street drugs,” according to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner Department.
“The department has also sought the assistance of an outside forensic toxicology reference laboratory, which has confirmed the absence of ‘bath salts,’ synthetic marijuana and LSD,” the statement said.

It's more common than I thought.

Definitely the North Hollywood shootout in LA. Remember seeing it as the main headline on the world news the day it happened. It was eerie in that the bank robbers looked like military commandos with body armor, and fully automatic assault rifles. It changed the way many departments are equipped, and better prepared to handle these situations.

The Golden State Killer - so glad they finally caught that monster!

Larry Singleton - who raped a teen hitchhiker, chopped off her arms and threw her down a hill hoping she'd break her neck. He even threatened her in court. He only served 8 years and was granted parole! Unfathomable! I remember there were community protests when he was about to be released into certain neighborhoods. I think the judge allowed him to live in a trailer on prison property because no neighborhood wanted him (obviously). Years later, he killed a prostitute and then died in jail.

Lisa Steinberg - poor little girl who died at the hands of her creepy lawyer father, Joel. His wife, Hedda had a beaten up face as well. It was an illegal adoption. He's out of jail.

This one is actually satisfying: The community got fed up with their "Town Bully" (McElroy) and took matters into their own hands! Still unsolved and should stay that way.
