It's been some time since I've visited Tucson. Do they no longer have a minor league baseball team?

How about any other sports? Hockey?

The Tucson sports scene is dominated by the University of Arizona. Tucson used to have a minor league baseball team, the Tucson Padres (and formerly the Tucson Sidewinders / Toros) but currently there are no minor league baseball teams.

There is FC Tucson, if you like soccer.

Not a fan of FC Tucson but they have a nice facility and I hope to attend Day 1 of the Desert Diamond Cup tomorrow.

I call golf a game rather than a sport, but the highly anticipated Accenture Match Play tournament (part of the World Golf Championships) is happening this weekend at Dove Mountain in Marana.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sorry to hear that there no longer is minor league baseball in the Tucson area. With Phoenix having both MLB and NHL teams, it's kind of surprising that Tucson doesn't have any minor league teams.

It's because the City of Tucson refused to build a state of the art stadium for a minor league baseball team/spring training venue. Hi Corbett and Kino Stadium just don't cut the mustard compared to the new state of the art facilities built in Phoenix.

Take a peek at what the Cubs are now using in Mesa, AZ, and you will see what the MLB teams are expecting to get for spring training facilities these days.

A far cry from what they had in Tucson. In addition to the complaints about facilities, MLB also said that ball players found Tucson to be "too boring."

Hi Corbett/TEP are good enough for minor leagues, just not up to par for spring training, and too disconnected. The location of TEP has affected attendance of AAA baseball, imo. It's a shame. A city of just under a million people. No minor leagues. Too far from the kind of cosmopolitan, sophisticated impression you want to make to attract new residents with disposable income. But the kind of environment for seasonal residents/investors. U of A is great, if one likes college/NCAA product and its problems (tailgating is especially nice). There's more to do in Tucson than when spring training was here, especially with downtown, but too little, too late.

Well, I just read where Bisbee and Douglas will have minor league teams this year. It's a drive, but if you want minor league baseball, I guess it's worth it!
