I, too, loved it. All the corruption and scheming. I don't think anyone could rise high in the church without being corrupted. This Pope had four children, eventually. There were nasty things said about how quickly after elected that one pope died - and they did no autopsy and allowed no one to view the body.
I remember some priest, was it Father Malachi, who got on a radio program and said that the corruption in the church was so bad to be unmentionable. He said if he were killed he had information going into the proper hands to start break it wide open, but until then he was praying and working for correction from within. He was, not too long afterward, found splattered on a pavement in New York. It was said he committed suicide. Not too long afterward we started hearing of all the child abuse cases. Makes you wonder.
It reminded me a lot of the BBC production The Six Wives of Henry the 8th.
I didn't particularly care for episode one of The Borgias but I plan to continue watching it because we are just now getting to know the characters. I'm waiting for Lucrecia to start poisoning people. LOL.
I collect old Charlie Chan movies and there is one where the murderer was a decendant of the Borgias and she poisoned people, too.
I've got to read a book on the Borgias because I don't know a lot about them. I always have to acclimate myself to the violence at the start of series from this time period. Usually, I leave the room when they start torturing people, especially on the rack. As I didn't see the BBC series, I can only compare the Borgias to Showtimes, The Tudors. So far, I like it.
Watched until it got sleezy, it is boring. Afraid they are going to knock on the Catholics too much so not real interested in following this one
