Actually I had a few tears thinking about what I paid to get HBO for the last season.
If we Rangers hadn't gotten a second season for Jericho the way it ended, the neighboring town ready to move in for the kill and the battle beginning would have ranked right up there. I'm sure that the 'end' of the first season helped drive us on to shut down CBS for a week.
I've gotten where if I really like it I may not watch the last episode of the season until I know if its the last last episode.
The final episode of The Cosby Show made me cry, but for an unusual reason.
Some of you may recall that the LA riots were going on that week. It was an extremely tense time and I lived in an area that had looting. Even worse, I worked in a doctors office in Long Beach where the looting was very bad. We had to be open for our patients but it was very tense to be in an office that had drugs, and after one day of that we shut down like every other smart business. There was nothing to do but stay home and watch tv, and all the was on tv was the looting. IMO, the tv coverage of the looting just made the situation worse. It was like fire feeding on itself.
Then.... everyone got a break. They decided to let the Cosby Show have it's season finale. There was just something so civilized about seeing an inner city family discussing college graduation and behaving calmly. I did, literally, cry during that show because it was a relief to see something so normal and to know that this meant the riots must be ending. And, because it involved a black family, in many ways it really was the perfect show to bridge that moment in history.
My favorite series finale, FWIW, was The Newhart Show when Bob Newhart awoke from a dream to find himself on the set of the original Newhart show. The joke was that the second show had all been a strange dream.
I said WTF after the Sopranos, too. I think I fussed at the TV for an hour or so. I also can't hear, "Don't Stop Believin" without thinking of the finale.
The Brothers and Sisters finale made me want to cry. But I didn't. I've never cried watching TV or a movie. It's not real.
