erm...isn't that basically what I posted originally?

Totally agree about the grimaces not necessarily being about reaching for range - or about pain, for that matter.

If Phillip had to grimace every time for range, his face would eventually break.

yes, I agree, many do it.

But...when Phillip shows his teeth clenched, he's trying hard not to sing, so he growls.

I realized today while searching the linked videos that Phillip talks to and dances with his music. There in the facial expressions, foot work, and growls and groans. He's expressing his music both vocally and physically.

That's how I interpret it, too, Tofurky

So after that opening number...Hollie sounded really weak and horrible and poor Joshua almost got away with that split - so close! That little religious young blonde girl had some moves on her! I liked the extra dance group

It kills me to see one of the pioneers of rock and an icon of the 70's singing with this karaoke joker.

It's one thing to post that one dislikes a performer.

But to do so in such a negative manner, and so often, says more about the poster than anything else.

Lol P2 is not a karaoke singer. Come on now.

Anyways, I thought Fantasia was annoying. I barely heard anything from Joshua once she got on stage. I always thought Fantasia was one of the more overrated winners in Idol history.

I don't know if Fantasia's yelling was a worse assault on my ears, or her outfit was a worse assault on good taste. Anybody thinking Joshua is a screamer, take note...he might as well have been whispering when sharing the stage with that girl.

John F needs all the exposure and $$ he can get - he famously made a horrible deal way back when and basically gave away all his music rights. He was generous to Philip and they looked like they had fun jamming. Unfortunately, I don't think Philip's voice stood up to John's.

Yuck - I agree with GoBucks about Fantasia ruining that. She was so screechy!

Oooo I love this Chaka Khan song!
