Last night I again laughed out loud several times again. I feel that Allison Janney is stellar in this show. It's great to see how well she does comedy. She's like a female Charley from Two and a Half Men. It's not a show I'd let the kids watch, but it has great potential.
People were writing off The Big Bang Theory at the beginning too, and now those same people see it on syndication and think it's a great show. I watched from the beginning so I always knew that.
Mom is the latest sitcom creation of Chuck Lorre who is now worth roughly $.5 billion. Just looking at his three current shows, it seems that the only one of his shows to make meteoric gains has been TBBT which jumped from 68th place to 3rd place over it's 6 years.
Chuck Lorre's full resume
Roseanne, 1990–1992, (writer, co-executive producer, supervising producer)
Grace Under Fire, 1993–1998 (creator, writer, co-executive producer, supervising producer)
Cybill, 1995–1998 (creator, writer, executive producer) Dharma & Greg, 1997–2002 (creator, writer, executive producer)
Two and a Half Men, 2003–present (creator, writer, executive producer)
The Big Bang Theory, 2007–present (creator, writer, executive producer)
Mike & Molly, 2010–present (writer, executive producer)
Mom, 2013-present (creator, writer, executive producer)
So, I see the chance of Mom failing as a TV show as close to zero as is possible.
Oh I loved Dharma & Gregg
I've been watching this Mom show because I love Anna Ferris and she was hysterical in The House Bunny. I have to say the first episode was really, really bad. But I gave it another shot - I couldn't help but think that the two leads are good actors this should be better. The second episode was much better .. I think it will need a few epis to get it's feet under it. I really want this show to be good.

All of this information is well and good but it is based on total viewers and a show's success or failure isnt based on that. It is based on the key demographic.
To put that into perspective:
NCIS premiere - 20.02 million total viewers but a 3.6 in key demo
BBT 2nd episode - 20.44million (only 400K more viewers) but a 6.1 in key demo
Less than half a million viewer difference but almost double the key demo viewers
Now, I tend to agree that "Mom" has the advantage of the Chuck Lorre name and that alone will help it survive but your data doesnt prove or disprove it.
So that's Lorre's resume. I was definitely a few of his 1st 4 shows. Shame Cybil only lasted 3 years (from what I read Cybil was as much a b*tech behind the scenes as she was on Moonlighting). The 1st episode was dull. Not even a smile came to my face. Good to see French Stewart and the guy that was Adam on Harry's Law back on TV. As an Anna Farms fan since the Scary Movie flicks I'll give it a couple more episodes before I either give up completely or keep it on my DVR.

Yes, my 80 year old mother loves Mark Harmon, and NCIS is the only broadcast show that she can stand. It also explains why TTBT stars will probably ask for more than Mark Harmon's $525K/episode salary to come back for season #8.
It is also why VEGAS got cancelled despite averaging a whopping 12 million viewers. There were too many old people who liked the show.
But Chuck Lorre's sitcoms are all skewed young, and every one of them lasts long enough to go into syndication. Which probably explains his net-worth of half a billion dollars.

Cybil was 4 seasons and 87 episodes. Even if everyone hates each other, you need almost 90 episodes before you have a product that you can syndicate. The preference is 5 seasons, but 4 will give you a product. There are some excepts, as I think Star Trek was only 3 seasons.

This show is hilarious, its only new comedy that I look forward to. The other new comedies are forced humor.
I was going to post why does it come on so late but I see what CBS has done.
They made Monday's comedy night.
I am a massive Allison Janey fan from her time on West Wing (my favorite tv show), so I checked out the pilot. I was not overly impressed, but I am going to watch a few more episodes and give it a chance.
On a Chuck Lorre note, I now see how the Dharma and Greg characters were able to do the cameo in the season premier of Two and a Half Men, after Charlie Sheen was booted from the show. That scene when Dharma and Greg come walking down the stairs of Charlie's house is one of my favorite scenes. The fact that Chuck Lorre was the boss on both Dharma and Greg and Two and a Half Men sort of explains how it happened.
IMO now that we are three episodes in the show is finding its footing. Episode three was funnier than episode two was funnier than the pilot. Hopefully it continues the course.
