Amazing ending to the mini-series. It *would* be nice if it continued.
I have a lot of anger every time I think of how space exploration has been squandered since the Apollo 11 moon launch. Humanity went from riding on horses to Putting a man on the moon in less than 100 years and then we stopped and haven't done much in the last 45+ years.
SMH.
Thank you Richard Nixon for that. It was a choice between sending a man to Mars or the Space Shuttle, he had zero interest in space so the Shuttle it was. The reason Wernher von Braun quit NASA.
I would like to see the series return showing after we've been on Mars for 20 or 30 years, to see the advancements made and the type of civilization there.
The series looked to be very good but I thought is was boring. Maybe I expected too much, but there really weren't many times when it got very interesting, and I like these kinds of programs.
I completely agree--and I also like these types of programs. The excitement in the last 30 seconds of the series should have been the theme for the entire series. All the disappointments and deaths could have been faced and addressed in the first two episodes, and the last two dedicated to the discovery of life (episode 3) and imaginative further explorations and colony sites (episode 4). Gotta have a decent dramatic arc, for goodness sake. Just send me a contract, NGC, and I'll rewrite your show!

I thought the reason we didnt go back to the moon is because we were told not to. And we turned to the Shuttle so that we could shore up planetary defenses. "Communications" sattelites...yeah right.
Oops...wrong forum. I enjoyed the show but I thought they were too heavy handed with the drama as well. I kept thinking...man cut these people a break....we need some kind of victory here. Watching ole dude stare at that door for so long with that picture and his wife just watching like she has NO IDEA what might happen next was painful. I just knew we were about to get the obligatory running through corridor knocking people aside with papers in their hands scene...
Anyway I would rather have seen a little more of them conducting experiments, exploring, devising new tech to study different things...rather than so much staring at each other sadly with the lights going out.
What is the point in spending so much money to go to Mars? Just to say that we did it? Mars is completely inhospitable. No way we could ever create an atmosphere there. I say spend the money on infrastructure right here at home -- not that we have the money. 19.9 trillion in debt and counting.

Because the earth isn't going to last forever. In order for the human race to survive we will eventually need to learn to live on other planets. Mars is in the habitable zone so it's a good start.
All in all I really enjoyed this series. I think they did a good job of mixing "real" with " drama". I wasn't sure at first if I would stick with it but each episode pulled me in farther until I really cared if the whole enterprise worked. I hope this network has another series like this in future.
I'm mainly watching for the drama. I appreciate the documentary part, but I'd really like to be able to go back and watch the entire drama part without the interruptions at some point.
I record it, fast forward through the whole global warming and Greenpeace stuff. Last episode was interesting, a baby born on Mars can never go to earth because of the gravity. Never thought about that.
