The more that leaks out about the show, the more I fear a train wreck. The original C & D were pretty dark for their time, dealing with things like drug use, human trafficking, etc. The original Cloak and Dagger weren't heroes; they were villains.
The TV show seems to be gearing up to be yet another teen show full of pretty people.
Being sort of ABC will it actually tie into the MCU, or will it follow the Runaways and break continuity by references to stuff like President Obama instead of the MCU President Ellis?
As it is for fresh content it premiers right about the time that Avengers Infinity War should be losing most of its movie screens. With Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D always on the bubble it may be the only almost free Marvel on the air going into Ant Man and The Wasp .
I'm trying my best to keep an open mind on this, but I have to say I am not at all impressed by the previews so far. The CLOAK & DAGGER comics were dark and gritty and dealt with things like human trafficking, homeless teens on the streets, drug addiction, etc. This looks more like a CLOAK & DAGGER 90210.
So I hope it will be good. But I am not at all optimistic.
I remember the Cloak & Dagger comics from the 80s. I read them off and on and yes they were dark and gritty. With this show being on Freeform I don't expect that same tone, especially if it's scheduled in what's considered "family hour" (8-9 PM). Despite being leery since it's not on Netflix I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt

Their first appearance(s) in Peter Parker and their subsequent miniseries rocked. That's how they should translate.
At least CW's Black Lightning is tonally on point.
