I watched a short YouTube video on the upcoming Netflex series The Witcher. Looks pretty intense. I do plan to check it out.

They mentioned it is based on a book series (as is the video game). I wonder if the books are worth reading??

They were originally written in Polish. I haven't read them, but I have friends who have, and they tell me that the English translation is pretty bad for a couple of the books. Others are better.

I am currently reading "Seasons of Storms" and am struggling with the odd plot and writing style.

I watched the trailer and was very impressed! But I will not read. As a rule, this makes no sense. The series is generally about something else seems to me.

“The Witcher” is Netflix’s answer to “Game of Thrones”

I'm hoping this will be good. But so far, none of the trailers have impressed me. It actually reminds me of the Jason Mamoa CONAN movie. Obvious wigs and costumes, the swords look like they just came out of the box, and everything looks designed. It lacks a "lived in" feel.

We'll see....

I played the Witcher III on my PS-4, then bought the two extended-play chapters. Geralt's "dead-pan" manner of speaking is rather like a mix of Clint Eastwood … and … ? (Help me out here).

The "world" is very Dungeons-and-Dragonesque, with races like Hobbits, Dwarves, and Elves (who are rather like American Indians, if I recall). Lots of hard decisions to make (Do you turn in a soldier of an opposing army that stole medicine to help his poorly supplied comrades ? Do you kill a Succubus that can't help if a young man is charmed and is willingly following her ? The town toughs that insult you in the tavern - you can kill them in less than five seconds - do you instead buy them a drink ?)

Lots of monsters, I hope they show up in the show too … river ghouls, draconic wyverns, vampires, shape-shifters, chitinous spider-things.

I for one will watch and might just play through the game one more time.

In three more days, hope it's worth the wait.

This week, Netflix finally launches its highly anticipated fantasy series The Witcher. If you’re not familiar with either the source material or just why people have gotten so excited about a white-haired Henry Cavill in a bathtub, you’re probably not sure what all the fuss is about or why this is so exciting. Allow us to give you a quick guide.
