Most of the 80's pop culture was actually good. I grew up on it. It was head-and-shoulders better than ANYTHING today's mainstream media puts out. But the "alien father" concept feels creepy beyond creepy! I'd expect it from some cringeworthy "woke" show in 2020, not a normal show in 1980's. Why couldn't they make him a truck driver or a traveling salesman who's only reachable by CB radio? Although it being 2020, the "alien" would probably self-identify as human while questioning his/her/its/their/zir species---and gender---at the same time.
Magic, aliens and super powers were just all the rage back then... It was a good time
Re: 'Out Of This World'
Imo, it was an interesting, wholesome, yet fun take on the "single parent household" ( which unfortunately also became hugely popular in the 80s... )
I'd be willing to bet that nobody here remembers "Alcoa Presents: One Step Beyond." It ran from 1959 to 1961. It was a little bit on the order of "The Twilight Zone." The big difference between the two is that "One Step Beyond" purported to be based on true stories. That made it a lot scarier than "The Twilight Zone." It also had the spookiest theme music ever written. To this day, I get so creeped out when I hear it that it almost gives me nightmares.
Oh, I was bored one day and ran out of things to stream on Netflix. So...I started binge watching One Step Beyond. It was alright but the series didn't have nearly as many episodes as Twilight Zone. I love that show and was so sad to see it off of Amazon prime.

They are having a Rod, White and Blue marathon this weekend on one of the OTA channels for the holiday. Rod as in Rod Serling, so you can get your fill if you have access to OTA channels.
I remember a short lived animated show as a kid called Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. The father
may have been the voice of Tom Bosley (Mr. C from Happy Days). He had a son with long hair, Chet - I think.
There was another quirky game show called, The Cheap Show. We thought Polly the Prize Lady was
funny and so was the ditzy co-host, Wanda?
I used to watch Wait til Your Father Gets Home. That was around 1976. It was Tom Bosley. It was also the first cartoon in Prime Time since the Flintstones. I don’t remember much about all of the characters but do remember the show,
