Mad Men, hands down, for me at least. Takes place in the JFK years, of advertising men on Madison Ave. (and the wives and women they cheated with). Sun 10 PM on AMC. It's a sociological study into this time period. Very authentic; like going back in time. There is nothing intellectual on tv except the history channel or Nat Geo. Hate Lost-way stupid. Desperate Housewives, give me a break.

I enjoy watching TV to chill out ..

My taste in shows runs the spectrum but my current favorites are:

Boston Legal, Brothers & Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, L&O, CSI, Without a Trace, and Two and a Half Men ...

There are others I tune into now and then. I used to love Lost, but have grown a little bored with it. I still have the last 5 episodes of last season on my DVR and need to watch them before the new season starts ... but just haven't been motivated lol

I really enjoy catching some shows on Frontline (depending on the topic) and Nat'l Geo along with the History or Biography networks, again depending on the topic.

I think the glut of reality programming over the last few years has really dumbed down many shows ... hence, my disinterest in many these days ...

JMHO

You know what's interesting? After perusing through this thread I haven't heard of ONE of these shows that are mentioned, with the exception of Lost. I got rid of the TV about 10 years ago and have been stimulating myself with these things called books (ok, and a little bit of Internet here & there).

I had never heard of Lost until a coworker brought the DVDs in to work and it was insisted that I would "be hooked". I wasn't. The initial episode was exciting, but beyond that - all the perpetually beautiful women with wisps of hair in their faces, handsome men with chronic 5 o'clock shadows, the racial stereotypes, and the ridiculous situations - I yawned and tuned out. I appreciate the creativity in the story line, but...come on. More unrealistic movie madness.

Not sure if the OP is only interested in currently running series, but Arrested Development and Twin Peaks were 2 more great "thinking person's" shows.

Read a book. TV is all about advertising influence and ratings.

Finally someone who posts a true intellectual show.

NONE of the other shows listed (network sitcoms and/or dramas) could be considered "Intellectual" because they are not. Sesame street is more intellectual than most of the shows currently on network tv.

Is there a way to watch back episodes of Dexter online?

I LOVE Michael C. Hall and have watched him since his Six Feet Under days (by the way, one of the best shows ever imho).

Anyway, I know I can get some from Netflix, but I am not subscribed right now.

So, if anyone knows a way to watch them online, let me know. Thanks!

Dawn
